"What makes engineering so important?"

BY: LUCAS ROMABILES Engineering is the process of applying science, mathematics and technology in order to design a system, product or process for a specific purpose. Engineering has many applications and may be described as all of the following:

  • The application of engineering to the human environment

  • The study of how to design, build and operate mechanical structures, such as buildings (architecture), machines and transport systems, electrical circuits and other items

  • The systematic study of materials, their properties and behavior as they relate to their use in engineering systems.

  • The collection and organization of technical information as it relates to engineering design through the medium of written language

Engineering is a multidisciplinary field that requires several types of skills. Many people have a broad background in some areas of engineering but don't have enough knowledge about another area such as chemistry or biology so they need to take courses in those topics. Engineers must have knowledge about math, science and technology in addition to the ability to analyze situations logically and make good decisions based on their experience.
